Pastor Mark's Blog March 14, 2008

In preparation for Easter, I was reading a portion of Max Lucado’s classic book No Wonder They Call Him The Savior.  He was writing about the reaction of the disciples.  “There is something striking in the simple fact that the disciples got together again.  I mean, they had to have been embarrassed.  As they sat gawking at each other that Sunday, they must have felt a bit foolish.”  He goes on to write, “It certainly was an awkward position in which to be.  Caught on that uneven ground between failure and forgiveness…too ashamed to ask for forgiveness, yet too loyal to give up.  Too guilty to be counted in, but too faithful to be counted out.

As I wrestle with following Christ, I can relate to those words.  We are all failures.  Yet I recognize the great hope through Christ to experience forgiveness and my response to never give up, to be too loyal to Him for all He’s done for me.

I love to celebrate Easter.  It always causes me to reflect on the wonder of God’s unfailing love to His failing people.  Well, if you haven’t found the “Events” page yet, check it out because we’re going to be having Good Friday Discussion Groups, focusing on the Last Words of Christ from the cross, words of great hope for failures like me.  This is really exciting and I hope to see you there.  Imagine, if you only have a small amount of energy and time left, if you could only speak a few words…what would they be?  These seven last words from the cross have been treasures to ponder, throughout Christian history.  So really, join us and focus on what Easter is all about!  Good Friday, 6:00 p.m. at Infusions Café (next to Subway on Redbird Circle).
